Shepherd's Pie Mashed Bowl

Hearty, classic dish with mashed potato topping.

Shepherd's Pie Mashed Bowl


1  pouch Potato Pearls® EXCEL® Original Mashed Potatoes, prepared
2  Tbsp Canola oil
4  cups Onions, diced
3  Tbsp Garlic, minced
4  lbs Lean ground beef
1  lb Ground pork
3 1/2  cups Tomato Juice
3  Tbsp Paprika
1/4  cup Chili powder
1  tsp Salt
1  tsp Pepper
4  cups Peas, frozen


  1. Prepare mashed potatoes according to package directions. Hold.
  2. Heat oil in medium rondeau, over medium heat. Stir in onions and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions begin to turn translucent, about 5 min.
  3. Stir in beef and pork. Cook, stirring occasionally, until meat is browned, about 15 min.
  4. Stir in paprika, chili powder, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until very fragrant, about 2 min.
  5. Stir in tomato juice. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally until meat is cooked through and very tender, about 20 min. Heat oven to 325°F.
  6. Remove meat mixture from heat, drain fat, stir in peas.
  7. Pipe ¼-oz prepared potatoes in bottom of 40, 9-oz ramekins. Divide meat mixture on top of potatoes. Pipe remaining potatoes over meat mixture.
  8. Bake until golden brown, about 25 min. Serve immediately.
