Summary
Manage Product Development activities to meet customer demands and company goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Ensure the ongoing coaching, development and training of staff, process performance appraisals and salary actions in a timely manner, and provide for an effective productive work environment.
2. Define New Product and Project opportunities and goals that focus on the Strategic Plan of Basic American Foods. These opportunities may be cost and/or efficiency related, or related to new products, new customers, and/or line extensions.
3. Co-ordinate project specific activities with Marketing, Sales, Operations, Finance, Procurement, Technical Services and Engineering groups to meet project goals and timelines.
4. Support Operations, Sales and Marketing, and other Technology groups with the goal of meeting our customer’s needs.
Maintain the highest ethics and integrity while embodying the tenets of “What We Stand For” and “The Basic Principles.”
Must maintain the highest standards of data management by creating consistent, reliable data which will ensure accuracy and in turn, maximize the use of data and confidence in decision making.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises assigned employees in the Technology Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in the sciences or engineering, with a MS level preferred and 5-10 years experience as a project manager in the food industry. Dry and/or refrigerated foods experience is a plus.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Must be able to learn new systems and use them. Current systems are Optiva, database software; Halogen Human Resource systems; Internet software; Use of the company's inventory software is not required, but can be an advantage Inventory software; Use of the company's inventory software is not required, but can be an advantage Manufacturing software; Project Management software; MS Excel Spreadsheet software, MS Word Processing software, and Outlook software.
Other Qualifications
Travel within a 60 mile local area required. Travel beyond that will be required on a project basis. Travel is typically 10% - 20%, but may be as high as 75%, as the projects require.
