Summary
Responsible for food safety, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), current Good Laboratory Practices, and quality within the assigned area of responsibility within Basic American Foods. The Food Safety Manager is expected to have intimate knowledge of cGMP, laboratory policies and procedures, production processes, and be actively engaged in improving food safety, quality, and laboratory and production efficiencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for overseeing and securing all aspects of food safety and quality from ingredients received to the production and shipment of food from BAF facilities and ensuring HACCP and cGMP’s are met within their area of responsibility.
2. Determine root cause of instances of food safety and quality deficiencies and resolve as quickly as possible. Partner with the QA Managers to determine the triggers that interfere with food safety and quality and develop predictors that eliminate the risk to maintain Food Safety.
3. Oversees customer, third party, and regulatory audits within their area of responsibility and is ultimately responsible that the facilities achieve passing scores by maintaining constant audit readiness. Ensure that corrective actions of all deficiencies identified by an audit are completed in a timely manner.
4. Works closely with Technology, Marketing, Sales, and customers to ensure that all products and processes within their area of responsibility meet government and religious requirements. Documentation that supports formulas and specifications are clearly defined, published, maintained, and accessible to those needing the information. The incumbent must understand and be part of managing the data management systems that support documentation.
5. Oversight and management of customer requirements.
Must maintain the highest standards of ethics and integrity while embodying the tenets of “What We Stand For” and “The Basic Principles.”
Must maintain the highest standards of data management by creating consistent, reliable data which will ensure accuracy and in turn, maximize the use of data and confidence in decision making.
Proactively manage safety by ensuring compliance with all Federal and State regulations and internal Company policies. Regularly complete behavior based safety observations. Ensure unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees at multiple locations. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelors of Science from a four year college or university required Masters of Science degree preferred, and four to seven years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software and Production Lifecycle Software.
